We're
getting close to the end of the month and winding up a great October list of
authors. Today we're talking about Jubal Van Zandt and the Revenge of the
Bloodslinger by eden Hudson. It falls into the Urban Fantasy/Cyber Punk genre.
Here's
what it's about:
Narcissist,
sociopath, and shameless backstabber Jubal Van Zandt is the best damn thief in
the history of the Revived Earth...and he won't shut up about it.
But not everybody in
the swampy, soggy, feudal future approves of Jubal's vocation. The Guild—the
religious fanatics who helped rebuild civilization after the collapse—in
particular are waiting for their opportunity to slip the noose around his neck.
Which is why when the
renowned Guild knight Carina Xiao—a.k.a. the Bloodslinger—contacts Jubal about
an off-the-books job that violates Guild Law, he's too intrigued to say no. He
is the best damn thief in the history of the Revived Earth, after all.
Part bizarro ecopunk,
part outworld thriller, part odd-couple roadtrip, Jubal Van Zandt and the
Revenge of the Bloodslinger is a 150% futurepunk quest for blood and betrayal
across the Revived Earth.
eden (she likes the lower case "e") dropped by to chat with us a bit. Here's what she had to say:SC: Tell me a little bit about your main character in this book.
eH: Jubal Van Zandt is the greatest thief in the history of the Revived Earth, and he likes to remind people of that—as well as how handsome, funny, and smart he is. He also happens to be the son of a notorious serial killer, and he’s completely incapable of feeling guilt or remorse, which has allowed him to get out of a lot of tight spots by throwing other people under the barge. By rights he shouldn’t become friends with Carina Xiao, a Guild knight with a record so shiny it puts commendations for honor and loyalty to shame, but they really hit it off. Hilarity, theft, slaughter, and sexy times ensue.
SC.
Oviously at a blog called Supernatural Central we're big on um… the
supernatural. Do you believe in the paranormal and if so, do you have an
experience you can share?
eH:I believe there
are plenty of things that we as a species don’t have the capacity to understand
yet and maybe never will, but our understanding or lack thereof doesn’t affect
the existence of those things. I believe in angels and demons and monsters and strange
phenomena—and nobody wants to hear about your most recent unexplainable
experience more than this eden right here. I’ll hang on every word.
Unfortunately, I’ve never had any experiences of my own. Maybe I will someday.
SC:
If you're open to it, I’m sure you'll get one soon. What titles are you working
on now that you can tell us about?
eH: Right now I’m
working on the second book in Jubal’s series, Jubal Van Zandt and the Beautiful
Corpse. I can’t say too much about it without Revenge of the Bloodslinger
spoilers, but I can tell you that Jubal is going to have to team up with
Carina—and her angry fiancĂ©—to avoid becoming the titular gorgeous dead body.
I
am invincible. I am a mutant. I have 3 hearts and was born with no eyes. I had
eyes implanted later. I didn't have hands, either, just stumps. When my eyes
were implanted they asked if I would like hands as well and I said, "Yes,
I'll take those," and pointed with my stump. But sometimes I'm a
hellbender peeking out from under a rock. When it rains, I live in a music box.
But
I'm also a tattoo-addict, coffee-junkie, drummer, and aspiring skateboarder.
Jesus actually is my homeboy.
eden came to us via Bewitching Book Tours. As usual, Supernatural Central did not receive any payola for this post. We just like to help authors spread their news.
