Book Description:

Veterinarian Douglas McCandliss considered himself an ordinary kinda guy with an ordinary kinda life. He had no idea why he'd bought the old silver teapot, and when a young woman appeared before him claiming to be a genie, he almost wished he hadn't. If only she wasn't so damned cute.

Ebullient and cheerful, Jacinth loved granting wishes and helping people. So she was thrilled when her teapot's new owner, a single father with custody of two young children, asked her to stay until he could find a nanny. The problem was, the longer she stayed, the more she was attracted to Douglas, and she was certainly not willing to turn over care of Ben and little Molly to just anybody. But she was a 900 year old genie, and had no intention of falling in love with a mortal man. None whatsoever.

Excerpt:
It wasn’t going to be all that easy, after all, he thought as he looked at Benny’s scared, apprehensive face a few hours later.
“Benny.” He squatted down to the boy’s level, holding his gaze reassuringly. “It’s very safe. Planes don’t usually crash, or fly into buildings, I promise. Those were accidents.”
“Mom said they did,” Benny told him, fear in his voice. “She was always watching plane crashes on the news. She watched them over and over.”
Was that how Lilian had planned to keep him from taking the kids if he found them? Douglas had to wonder. Certainly, she’d always had a taste for the morbid and the sensational, but to deliberately implant a fear of flying in a young child when she had taken the children the width of the continent away from him, was going too far. Molly looked scared too, even abandoning Jacinth to cling to her brother’s hand. Tears welled up in those bottomless blue eyes, and her lower lip trembled ominously. If he was going to put these two on the plane, it was going to have to be by brute force.
Exchanging a glance with Jacinth, he saw his opinion mirrored in her face. They had two choices. They could find another mode of travel to New York, or carry two screaming, terrified children onto the airplane. Douglas had never considered himself lacking in courage, but his nerves quailed at the graphic image that conjured up.
“Okay, okay, don’t panic,” he told them. “Give me a couple of minutes here and I’ll think of something.”
He moved a few feet away from the car where they all stood, still in the parking lot at the zoo. Jacinth followed, and he lowered his voice to consult with her.
“What am I supposed to do? Dammit, we’re three thousand miles from home! Did Lilian do this on purpose?”
Jacinth gnawed on her lower lip, feeling her brows pull together as she pondered.
“Probably,” she agreed. “I think you’re going to have to rent the car all the way to New York, Douglas.”
His grimace was rueful. “That distressing possibility occurred to me. At least that would be better than taking the bus or the train, which are our only other options. Four days in a car with two young children, though, is my idea of a nightmare. They’re so little, and it’s been so long since we’ve been together, we’re complete strangers to each other. This is definitely not how I’d choose to get to know each other again.”
Jacinth twinkled at him. “You have a nanny,” she reminded him. “And once you’re home, you have your job to go to. This might turn out for the best for both you and the children. By the time we get to New York you’ll have established a rapport with them.
Enthusiasm fired in her, and she felt a burst of excitement. “It’ll be fun, Douglas. We can play car games, and I can read them stories, and we’ll buy some of those children’s sing-along CD’s. We can eat at truck stops and roadside diners along the way, then stop at motels in the afternoon. The children can nap, then we can go to dinner, and maybe swim in the motel pool in the evening. We can buy postcards and a camera and take lots of pictures.”
She watched Douglas hopefully as he thought this over. Driving across America wasn't something she'd ever have thought of doing, or even wanting to do, but now she was seized with a great longing. Perhaps it was because of the presence of Douglas and the children, having someone to share this great new adventure with.
“It doesn’t sound like such a bad idea, when you put it that way,” Douglas admitted. “Maybe this could work after all.”
Hope sprang up in her breast as another thought occurred to her. “If we’re not going to fly out from here tonight, could we stay one more day and go to Disneyland tomorrow?”
Douglas broke into laughter. “Okay, yes, we’ll go to Disneyland.”
Hearing him, Benny let out a whoop of excitement, and Molly’s eyes shone like stars. Douglas held up a hand for silence.
“But we’re not staying late,” he warned them. “I’m not fighting this kind of traffic on a Monday morning. We’ll leave Disneyland before it gets dark so we'll be well out of the city before we find a motel for the night. No arguments when I say it's time to leave. Agreed?”
He noted with amusement that Jacinth joined in with Benny in assuring him that was fine, while Molly nodded her head vigorously, the curly blond bangs flopping in her eyes. She was so adorable, he wanted to scoop her in his arms and hold her tight. His chest constricted, and his eyes stung a little as he looked at his kids. He loved them both so much.
“I owe you,” he told Jacinth, his voice hoarse with the emotion he couldn’t suppress. “I owe you a lot. There’s nothing in the world that means as much as my kids.”

INTErVIEW WITH AMANDA J. GREENE (Wicked Passion)

Wicked Passion
Under Realm Assassins
Book Three
Amanda J. Greene

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Date of Publication:  6/18/19

Number of pages: 130
Word Count: 50,000

Cover Artist: Kim Killian
Hot Damn Designs

Book Description:

James Stonewoll is an Elite Assassin for the Under Realm Syndicate—an expert hunter and merciless killer. As a former pirate, he thrives on danger, the more perilous the mission, the better and he can't resist his newest contract: eliminate a rebel shape-shifting magic thief that stalks the border of the Under Realm kidnapping and murdering innocent Others. But never did the centuries old vampire anticipate playing hero to a mythical temptress with luscious curves, tantalizing lips, and hypnotic eyes.

Captured and held prisoner, Katya Moro was trapped in a seemingly endless loop of unimaginable agony as her magic was slowly being torn from her soul. A gasp away from death, she is rescued by a sinful kiss and awakens in the strong arms of a powerful warrior whose roguish smile, sharp fangs, and intense strength unlock dormant instincts within her, an all-consuming madness that demands complete surrender.

Gazing down at her, James knew he had to kill her. Dark Magic Wielders, like the beautiful female he’d found, were a grave threat to human society and were not permitted to roam the mortal world. But Katya’s smoky voice and sweet kisses stir a fierce hunger inside him. She is unpredictable, uncontrollable and wickedly seductive—his perfect kind of dangerous. To keep her safe, James will protect her from the magic thieves that hunt her and his fellow assassins until he can find a way to return Katya to her home in the Under Realm.

Can Katya’s passion conquer the darkness within his soul?

Excerpt:

He was too strong, too tantalizing. Forbidden. She could find another source. One not so threatening, tame. Surely, he could take her to a city where she could steal bits of energy from others. Happiness, laughter, contentment, love, she could leech off any positive aura. She’d survived doing just that within her tribe. None dared to touch her, or directly interact with her unless they required her healing gifts, so she’d been left to feed off scraps of emotion and energy.
She flattened her palms against his chest and tried in vain to push him away. Her cheeks heated in embarrassment, she was pathetically weak. “I—”
“Need me.” His rich voice was roughened with passion.
Katya trembled with yearning. Oh, yes, she needed. But would he demand she surrender? Could she? He was a vampire, an immortal immune to magic, invincible. Perhaps with him, she could let go. She could find pleasure. She could be herself, completely, like never before. He wasn’t like anyone else. He could withstand her darkness. He could match her cravings.
As if reading her thoughts, his hard bronze gaze swirled with challenge, hunger, and untamable lust. “Kiss me as if you want to live.”
“I do.” Her claws sharpened, the tips sliced his shirt and pricked his flesh. “I will.”
She claimed his mouth possessively, her tongue twining his until he groaned for more and took it. His hand clamped on the back of her nape, his grip tightened, holding her still as he slanted his head and deepened the kiss.
Long forgotten sensation rocked her. This powerful male was the embodiment of temptation and danger—irresistibly addictive.
He shifted as if to move away and dread lanced her. A harsh growl escaped her lips. Did he intend to end the kiss? No! She needed this. Needed him.
Katya wound her arms around his waist. Holding him captive, she arched against him, pressing her breasts to his solid chest, the contact delicious, perfect—right.
His mental shields lowered even more and lust battered her senses. Katya unleashed her magic and pleasure slammed into her. His. Hers. She didn’t know where one ended and the other began. It didn’t matter. Nothing mattered. His origins and her past of no consequence.
The first draw of his power hit her like a cannon, devastating her weakened body, leaving her a trembling mess of tingles and shivers. Good Lady, she’d never known anything like this. Never tasted so much strength. Her body hummed, her blood sizzled, her magic burned and her soul soared. On and on, intense vitality coursed through her, consuming, dizzying. She never wanted this connection to end.
Brazenly, seeking, demanding more of his desire, she stroked her tongue across one of his fangs. He stilled. Was he waiting for her to do it again? Did he want her to draw blood? The idea made her head spin.
Katya caressed his other fang. He groaned into her mouth and his large frame shook—from pleasure or restraint?

iNTERVIEW WITH CAROL VAN NATTA (Shifter Mate Magic)

Today we are lucky enough to have an interview with USA TODAY bestselling author Carol Van Natta.

SC: Tell me a little bit about your main character of this book.
CVN: The main characters of Shifter Mate Magic (Ice Age Shifters Book 1) are Trevor, an independent trucker, and Jackie, a former accountant on the run.
Trevor is not just any shifter, but a giant Ice Age bear called an Arctotherium. His ordinary bear parents sent him off to live with his aunt because they couldn’t handle him. More the point, his very existence was ruining their chances for career advancement in the clan. Becoming an independent trucker accommodated his inner bear’s need for wandering. Lonely Trevor hoped it would give him the chance to meet his mate, but so far, no luck.

Jackie, a successful human accountant, came from a long line of witches, so she knows about the hidden magical world. She had the misfortune to fall for a lying leopard shifter. The moment she inconveniently became pregnant, he had her kidnapped for an underground auction. They sold her to a corrupt mixed feline pride that planned to use her as a breeder for babies to sell. Biding her time, she finally steals a motorcycle and escapes.
Here’s an excerpt from Shifter Mate Magic about how these two meet. The setting is a truck-stop convenience store just outside Cheyenne, Wyoming, and the year is 1993.

⚜⚜⚜

She let go of the refrigerator door and turned toward the front, only to run headlong into a man who’d just turned down the aisle.
“Sorry,” she said, even as he said the same word. She regained control of her suddenly clumsy feet. She got the impression of chiseled cheekbones and a square jaw before she dropped her gaze out of habit, one learned from living with volatile shifters. His scent hit her like a freight train a moment later, all woodsy and leathery and mouthwateringly male.

No one, not even the father of her baby, back when she’d thought she was in love with him and he with her, had ever smelled that good. She took a step back, because if she hadn’t, she’d have been tempted to stick her face in the vee of his short-sleeved T-shirt and lick.
“My fault,” he said. “Are you…” He trailed off and audibly swallowed.

She made the mistake of looking up at him and confirmed that he was the sexiest man she’d ever seen, even counting the handsome actors she’d thrilled over as a teenager. His brown skin and features spoke of an ethnic heritage something like hers, and his warm, coppery-brown eyes threatened to drown her on the spot. His wide shoulders and arms looked strong enough to protect her from anything. The few tight coils of hair on his muscled chest mirrored the close-cropped hair on his head. His low-slung jeans and boots completed the mesmerizing package.
She swallowed and took another step back, away from temptation. “I’m fine.”

Except she wasn’t. She wanted to set fire to all her plans in favor of getting to know the man standing in front of her.
For his part, he looked stunned.

She shook herself. Not, not, not happening. She was a pregnant fugitive with enough secrets to write her own soap opera, and an implacable enemy on her tail. A human, no matter how tall, broad-shouldered, and sexy, was no match for a criminal cat-shifter pride with claws and teeth, and vengeance on their minds.

⚜⚜⚜

SC: OOO! She is going to have some issues with herself and her man. Do you believe in the paranormal and if so, do you have an experience you can share?
CVN: I believe that human imagination is phenomenal, and our ability to invent explanations about things we don’t understand is unparalleled. The evidence is against the eldritch, the magical, and the supernatural, but I delight in the possibilities.

Admittedly, science is sometimes kind of boring. Bioluminescent insects and swamp gas aren’t nearly as much fun to think about as will-o’-the-wisps, leading unwary night travelers to their watery doom. And I love giving secret magical causes to events in human history. For example, in the Ice Age Shifters series, the 1908 Tunguska event in Siberia that humans attribute to a meteor air burst was actually the devastating result of the most recent polar fairy-arctic elf war.
Belief is powerful, whether for good or bad. In Shift of Destiny, Ice Age Shifters Book 2, Moira, the heroine, firmly believes there’s no such thing as magic. The obsessed billionaire chasing her believes she’s a psychic, but she believes it’s just lucky guesswork. If Chance, a sexy Ice Age shifter, believes she’s his mate, but if he can’t open her eyes, he could lose her forever.

SC:  What titles are you working on now that you can tell us about?
How kind of you to ask. 😊 I’m currently working on more Ice Age Shifters stories because they’re such fun. Shifter’s Storm (Ice Age Shifters Book 5) is scheduled for release by late summer. In addition, I’m working on the long-awaited next book in my Central Galactic Concordance space opera-adventure-romance series. And because I’m a crazy author person, I’m also working on two other projects in my copious free time.

Southern Wyoming ~ Summer 1993
Jackie nodded and walked quickly, following the arrows. Luckily, she didn’t have to wait in line or share the facilities. After the blessed relief of peeing, she used soap and water from the sink to make herself look as presentable as possible under the circumstances. Her light brown skin already made her stand out, because the farther north she’d traveled, the fewer people she’d seen who looked like her. She threw the soiled paper towels in the trash and eyed herself critically in the mirror. At least now she didn’t look like a dangerous fugitive who’d escaped a violent pack of leopard shifters who wanted her back alive or dead. Despite the warmth of the restroom, she shivered.
“Get back to the plan, Jackie,” she told her mirrored self. She couldn’t afford to fall apart, or everything she was afraid of would come to pass. She bent over to drink straight from the sink’s faucet, then wiped the water off her face. She re-centered her her backpack and went out into the convenience store.
The smells of warm bread and sizzling hamburgers drew her like a lodestone toward the restaurant section, but she couldn’t afford to waste the time or the money. She sternly made herself march into the back aisle and open the refrigerator door for the lunch meats and cheeses.
She got a whiff of a tantalizing scent as she pulled her selections off the hooks. Not food, but something intensely interesting. Her sense of hearing and smell had magnified with each passing week of her pregnancy. She wished she knew if that was typical for a human woman carrying a shifter’s child but she had no one to ask. Certainly not the lying son-of-a-bitch leopard who’d gotten her pregnant, despite her precautions. She hoped he was roasting in hell, but he probably wasn’t. Justice for the privileged rich, regardless of skin color or species, had a whole different set of rules.
She let go of the refrigerator door and turned toward the scent, only to run headlong into a man who’d just turned down the aisle.
“Sorry,” she said, even as he said the same word. She regained control of her suddenly clumsy feet. She got the impression of chiseled cheekbones and a square jaw before she dropped her gaze out of habit, one learned from living with volatile shifters. She clutched her meat and cheese packages to her chest and turned away, even though her now throbbing body and aching breasts begged her to get closer. She’d learned to ride out the hormonal roller coaster of being pregnant, so she could damn well ride this out, too.

INTERVIEW WITH L.J. Epps (Extinction of All Children)

So, how was your weekend? We are full blown BBQ season here in Vancouver. Time to get those patio chairs out and settle down with some iced-tea and turn some pages. Today we have author L.J. Epps in the house to answer our three favourite questions.
SC: Tell me a little bit about your main character of this book.
LJE:  The main character is Emma. Emma lives in a world that has been divided into three territories, the rich, the working class, and the poor by an evil president. The poor are no longer allowed to have children, since they do not have the means to take care of them.
Emma is the last eighteen-year-old in her territory; every baby born after her has died.
Somehow, she survived this fate. During the president’s Monday night speech, she announces a party will be held to honor the last child in the territory, Emma Whisperer. Emma must read a speech, expressing how happy she is to be the last eighteen-year-old. Emma doesn’t like the rules; she feels she must rebel against them. Her family doesn’t agree with her rebellion, since they are hiding a big secret. After doing what she feels is right, Emma finds herself in imminent danger.
Her journey takes her through twist and turns…that land her in jail.  She also finds out what love is and experiences her first kiss. Emma is always curious as to her surroundings. She feels as if she is also strong and independent. Her wild ride helps her find out just how strong-willed she really is, and shapes her into the woman she will eventually become.
SC:.Do you believe in the paranormal and if so, do you have an experience you can share?
LJE: I don’t believe in the paranormal but there are people I work with that do.
Someone I work with shared this with me. She told me her daughter has dreams and sometimes when her daughter wakes up the dreams are from something that took place in real life.  What I mean by that is her daughter was spending the night at her grandparents’ house. While staying at her grandparents’ house she had a dream that a young girl was killed.  She could vividly see the young girl in her dream…the eye color and hair color.  The young woman was crying out for help for someone to save her. My co-worker’s daughter woke up shaking and crying and shared the dream with her mother. My co-worker said that a young girl had been killed in that very house over forty years ago her daughter had no idea of that fact…but dreamed about it.
I still don’t believe but like I said my co-worker does.
SC: What titles are you working on now that you can tell us about?
LJE: I am currently working on a novel.  It’s almost finished just needs a little editing before it is published.  It has a working title right now but I plan on changing it.  I like to write young adult fantasy fiction and dystopian.  I also like writing women’s drama fiction/romance.
The novel I’m currently working on is women’s fiction/romance.  It’s about a woman living in a small town whose husband just up and left her.  This woman has to figure out
how to provide for her young daughter. She also has to figure out how to move on and find love again. There are twists and turns which I love in a novel.  I hope once it’s completely finished others like it too.
SC: Well, thanks for stopping by. Let's take a look at your novel now.

Excerpt 1:

“On your feet.”
I hear a loud voice. My heart jumps. It sounds like Rich.
There are no windows here, but my internal clock tells me it is bedtime. I was waiting for the lights off in ten minutes call. Instead, I see him standing in front of my cell. He looks the same yet scarier, and his green eyes peer at me. His hair looks as bright as a ripe cherry. My hands shake.
“I’m not going to say it again. You’ve been summoned to see the president.”
“But it’s almost time for lights out.” My voice quivers.
“I don’t care what time it is. I gave you an order.”
I stand and my knee twitches. The ice pack, lying on my side, falls and crashes to the floor. My cell door opens with a squeal, and Rich steps inside. He is dressed in his uniform, and he smells of musk and liquor. I didn’t think guards could drink while on duty, but what do I know.
“Let’s go,” he says, clutching my arm.
Once I’m out of my cell, he snaps the handcuffs on. The coldness straddles my wrists. Like a dog on a leash, he leads and I follow. My stomach is in knots. I don’t know what to expect once we reach the president’s quarters. But, we don’t go to the fifth floor; the elevator dings on the second floor. He pulls on my handcuffs and yanks me off the elevator. My gym shoes scuff against the hardwood floors as we walk down the long hallway. We end up at the conference room.
The room is bright red. There is a large window. I see a few remnants of sunlight, peering through the blinds. There is a long, brown table that looks like it is made of marble. There are four chairs on each side and one large chair at the end where President Esther sits. She has on a dark blue pants suit and a white shirt. Her silver hair is pulled back into a bun, and her lipstick is bloodred.
“Sit down, Emma,” she says, pointing to the chair next to her. “I thought we could have a chat.”
I plunk down, but not next to her. I sit a few seats away.
“You’re cautious, I like that.” Her mouth curls up.
Rich still stands in the room. He’s glaring at me, like a fire breathing dragon. I shiver.
“Thank you, Rich.” President Esther looks at him. “That will be all.”
“Are you sure you don’t need me to stay?”
“No, I’ll be fine.”
“But, I think I should.” He steps closer. His eyes narrow.
“I said I’ll be fine, Richard.” She uses his full first name. “You can go now.”
“As you wish,” he says, with a lion-like growl.
I never knew his full first name was Richard, but I’m glad she told him to leave. He seems like he would challenge her, at every turn. I wonder why she keeps him around. He looks like a coldhearted killer, so maybe she needs his talents. I pray, once he leaves the room, my knee will stop wiggling. He roughly exits, stomping like a drunken man whose liquor has been cut off. The door bangs as he slams it behind him.
“Sorry about that.” Her piercing blue eyes gape at me. “He goes overboard, sometimes.”
