Friday.
Finally here. And so is Ivy Keating to talk
about her new book. Welcome, Ivy!
SC: Tell me a little bit about your main character of this book?
IK: The main character in Sarana and the Dark King is Sarana. At birth, her father, the king of Bounten, rejected her because she was born with stark white hair—a sign she was cursed. In a twist of fate, Sarana was taken to another kingdom where she was raised in an impoverished home—her identity a secret. To protect herself from witch-doctors and prejudice over her unusual looks she was forced to hide her tresses and shy away from people. But, she was never alone. In addition to her loving adopted parents, a magical creature, known as a Valomere, befriended her. With this wolflike animal, and the burgeoning of her inner strength, she just might be the hero her kingdom needs.
SC: Do you believe in the paranormal and if so, do you have an experience you can share?
IK: Yes. I believe the energy of people and animals that have passed are still with us. For years after my grandfather died, I would often feel he was by my side. Less as time went on, but I can still sense him. I have the same feeling about my paternal grandmother. They both appear more often if I am sad or stressed, and their presence comforts me.
SC: Thanks for sharing the story of your grandparents. What titles are you working on now that you can tell us about?
IK: There may be a sequel to Sarana and the Dark King. The wicked sorcerer Terabin planted several maps that could lead to the powerful metal tarilium. Any ruler that finds these maps could acquire omnipotent power. I cannot share the fate of Sarana or her evil father the king, but I can disclose that Terabin made certain his maps would wreak havoc for many centuries.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Let's take a look at your book now.
Bewitching Exclusive Excerpt:
Cabe moved closer and put his arm around her. “Are you afraid?”
“Of what?”
“Of war.”
“Yes.”
“What scares you the most?”
“That I’ll let everybody down.”
“You won’t.”
He stroked the side of her face. She looked up at him and closed her eyes. The next sensation she experienced was the brush of his lips against hers. In the chilled air, he was the warmth she craved. He pulled off the cloth that tied her hair and ran his fingers through it. The fondling awakened her senses. There was nothing else. No forest, no war—just the need to feel his strong body against hers and the taste of his mouth. Her hair blew with the wind. He grasped her around the waist, and she tossed her head back to expose herself to the pleasure of his kisses on her neck and his hands on her body. Their lust enveloped her soul, but it could not contain her mind.
“Is something wrong?” he asked, as she rested her fingers on his chest to gently hold him back.
“Cabe, I want you. But tonight, I am a warrior.”
He held her close and gently bit her neck. The sensation aroused her. “I want you too.”
“Will you find me after the war?” she said into the night.
“I’ll be at your side.”
About the Author:
Motivated by nature’s mysteries and the complexity of human behavior, Ivy Keating writes science fiction and fantasy novels that explore the relationship between mankind and the natural world. A master’s degree in social work helps her understand the nature of her characters as they struggle with the repercussions of their actions.
Her first novel, Camouflage, was inspired by the
landscape and natural beauty of New England. Sarana and the Dark King, was
imagined from a mental picture of the Great Lakes. The proximity of these
bodies of water and the land that surrounds them conjured the images of
separate kingdoms—at least they did in her mind. Ivy believes that her
challenge as a writer is to take a setting that intrigues her and create a plot
that is both clever and surprising.
