Date of Publication: 5/15/2018

Number of pages: 258
Word Count: 68,000

Cover Artist: K Creative Designs

Tagline: Fate has a plan all her own.

Book Description:

Sometimes fate gets it all wrong.

Zoey Kent has lived with that fact ever since she turned eighteen and learned that the man she loved could never be hers. He’s a born shifter, a wolf, and she’s a mere human. Fate doesn’t care if on paper they’re a perfect pair. She isn’t his fated mate and she’s resigned herself to the knowledge that someday, she’ll have to watch Michael mate with another. It’s never crossed her mind that there might be someone else out there for her, that she would be the one to mate another, to choose another over everything she’s ever known or wanted.

Sometimes fate gets it all right.

Rafe Hudson left his pack behind years ago. Physically and mentally scarred from an attack that left his parents and twin dead, he walked away from his responsibilities as Alpha. He never intended to return but lone wolf or not, he can’t leave Michael open to an attack he’s learned is coming for his only brother. What he didn’t know was that going home would mean scenting his mate, the one person in the world that could make him whole again, that could give him everything he thought he’d lost. His pack, his home and his family.

But fate always has a plan.

There’s no way Michael’s brother is her future, is there? Just like there’s no way that the girl his brother has loved since they were kids, was always meant to be his, right?

Only fate knows why they were brought together but there is one thing for sure, the sparks between Zoey and Rafe are undeniable. The bond between them is unbreakable. And together… they’ll change the face of the pack forever.

Excerpt 1

Zoey felt her jaw fall open. Rafe. Michael had called him Rafe again. Add in what he’d just said about the pack being his and that meant he was exactly who she’d thought he was when she got that first good look at him.
Her mind was whirling, “Michael? What’s going on? Tell me. Now. Because what my head is telling me can’t possibly be right… can it?”
Michael sighed, started to reach for her again and then must have thought better of it considering the threat hanging in the air. He swiped his hand across his jaw instead. When he met her eyes again, there was more than just concern there this time. There was also a good portion of sadness.
“Zoey, you remember my brother?”
“Rafael.” Her gaze automatically shifted back to him when Michael confirmed what she’d already put together, “Rafe.”
That flash of recognition hit her again along with something else. It had been a long time. She’d barely been a teenager the last time she saw him. He’d taken off after the accident that took his parents life and the life of his twin brother, the same accident that had made Michael Alpha of the pack.
It was the something else that distracted her though, the thing that definitely hadn’t been there when she’d known him before. The instant attraction to him was new. So was the urge to move towards him, to let him protect her, the belief that he was the one offering safety, comfort and home. None of that had been there when she’d known him before… before she’d turned eighteen, she realized.
Her head was still trying to figure out what that meant, how that was possible, when Michael’s next words confirmed what her heart had been trying to tell her all day.
This was the important part. The impossible part. The part she never could have seen coming because it changed everything.

“He thinks you’re his mate.”

INTERVIEW WITH MARISA DILLON (The Golden Rose of Scotland)

SC:  Tell me a little bit about your main character of this book.
MD:  Let me introduce you to the heroin of my story. Rosalyn Macpherson is a head-strong Highlander who hates everything English. But as an alchemist, with healing skills and physic talents, she uses any means to take back her clan’s stolen castle, even poison. Although she’s a lady, most often she chooses not to curb her tongue and will fight for what she believes is right.

SC: I'll make a note to watch my back around her.  Do you believe in the paranormal and if so, do you have an experience you can share?
MD: Of course. I’m intrigued by the writings of Charles Fort, considered by many as the father of modern paranormalism.  I’m a student of the Esoteric Sciences as well and I believe there are some parallels. Although I don’t write paranormal books, you’ll find pivotal content in my books that include, rune stones, alchemy, mysticism, physic phenomenon and even the use of the Philosophers Stone. Personally, I have not had a paranormal experience, but I consult a physic advisor regularly. I credit him with the path I am on today as a romance writer.
SC: It is good that you found  one you can relate to. What titles are you working on now that you can tell us about?

MD: Confession: I’m usually working on multiple projects at once. I’ve outlined both a novella and a third novel for the “Lady of Lore Series.” I’m so excited about these new stories for many reasons, but it’s most rewarding when readers fall in love with your characters and ask that you continue to include their favorites. The novella will be released sometime this year, but no specific date has been set. It all depends are how quickly I can get the words down and ready for readers.

SC: Thanks for stopping by. Let's take a look at your story now.

When poisonings are an everyday occurrence, healer Rosalyn Macpherson must be ready with an antidote. Unless it’s for the English Lord who means to claim her clan’s Highland castle.

What’s in a name? Everything, for Lord Lachlan de Leverton, a charismatic English aristocrat. He’ll break the law to sever his ties to his notorious family. But first, he must secure the deed to Fyvie Castle before the feisty Scottish lass wins it.

Because of their conflicting claims, Rosalyn and Lachlan are ordered to appear in Edinburgh’s royal court, and in an unusual twist of fate, they are assigned as guardians, rather than prisoners, to a caravan carrying the Golden Rose, a papal gift for the King of Scots.

When the royal decree becomes a forced union between the two, it’s not the remedy Rosalyn had hoped for, but by now she doesn’t hate this Englishman quite as much.

Before the knot is tied, the Rose is stolen and Lachlan’s suspected of the crime. Rosalyn then faces the hardest decision yet. Must she sacrifice her precious Philosophers Stone or the land she loves, or both, to save him?

Excerpt:
What was Lachlan up to? Why was he toying with her like a wench? For if his aim was to take her virginity, should he dally with all of Scotland waiting?
But just as she was about to protest, his gaze met hers, revealing the passion trapped inside begging to be released. With his other hand, he shoved the remaining silk strap off her shoulder and let the wedding gown fall to her feet. She was totally exposed to her new husband’s whims. Nothing covered her but her own passion.
“You are so beautiful,” he gushed like a lad with a new shiny object. “I would savor you like a feast, but the guests and the king await.” As he held her gaze, he gathered her into his arms and gently laid her back on the bed.
Even though he had every right to take her, and he’d ignited a passion storm inside her, she was not ready to give up her virginity just because a king wanted her to. So when Lachlan turned away from her and began to loosen his belt, Rosalyn swiftly and silently stole his dagger from its sheath.
Now, would she have the courage to use it?

Excerpt:

Falling in love is like baking.
Results may vary with experience.
~Aunt Francesca~

Chapter One

I opened the box and stepped back, tripping over a pile of Himalayan wind chimes I’d left lying behind me on the floor of the shop. They clanked in a discordant melody as I untangled them from my feet.
“What the heck?” I asked, ignoring the chimes and focusing on the parcel that had arrived in the mail earlier that morning. Tiny stone phalluses in various shades of gray filled the container to the brim. Checking the return address, I noticed the shipping cost and wanted to cry. Most of our inventory budget for the entire month had been used to mail this one small box halfway around the world.
“Mom, what exactly did you order from Inuyama, Japan?”
My mother popped her head around the corner, a bright smile on her face. “Did they finally arrive, Fiona? I’ve been waiting for ages.”
“For stone penises?”
Why was I even surprised? This wasn’t the first time something like this had happened, and it probably wouldn’t be the last. My mother, Claire de Lune Campbell, had never been the master of impulse control, and she had a history of making very poor decisions. She’d been born Claire Campbell and added the “de Lune” in, what I can only guess, was a moment of pot-induced inspiration. The pot no longer played a part in her life, but the total inability to make common-sense decisions remained.
Mom picked up one of the stone penises, a happy twinkle in her eye. “Aren’t they lovely?”
On the outside, Mom and I looked alike. The same blonde hair, the same blue eyes, the same stubborn tilt to our chins, but there the resemblance ended. Mom was as happy and bright as a butterfly landing on a flower, and she had the same level of fiscal responsibility. I stressed about everything, especially money, but I had good cause.
My mom owned and operated the Enchanted Garden Café, where we served food, coffee, and specially blended teas and sold unusual items in our small gift shop. Nestled in the middle of the South Side, the funky hippie district of Pittsburgh, it was the perfect spot for my mom but a constant source of anxiety for me.
I wiped sweat from my face and brushed off my clothing. Dust covered my T-shirt and shorts, and some kind of stone powder had fallen out of the box from Inuyama onto my tennis shoes. Mom, glowing in a dress made from recycled saris, didn’t have a speck of dust on her, but she hadn’t handled the phalluses.
Kate, the girl who worked behind the counter, came over to us, her blue eyes alight with curiosity. “I want to see them,” she said. Mom handed her one, and she studied it closely, peering at it through the thick black frames of her retro hipster glasses. Her ebony hair was pulled off to the side in a low ponytail, and her colorful tattoos peeked through the crocheted black cardigan covering her pale skin. “At least they are anatomically correct. Look at those veins.”
My cheeks grew warm, and Mom smiled, putting a cool hand against my face. “Aww, Fiona is blushing.”
“No, I’m not. It’s hot in here.”
“Of course it is,” she said, making me feel twelve instead of twenty-five, but it was hot for early June, and the air-conditioning was broken. Again. Even with all the windows open, it still felt stuffy.
I ignored her and picked up a penis. “What are these things anyway?”
She beamed at me with pure, unfiltered happiness. “Fertility charms from a little shrine in the mountains of Japan. They have a big festival there every year. I went once.”
She sighed, most likely remembering happy times at the fertility festival, and went back to the kitchen. I looked at Kate and rolled my eyes, making her snicker, before getting back to work. The fertility charms came in all sizes and seemed handmade. I just wasn’t sure how to sell them or where to display them in our shop.
A Victorian eyesore, the café was painted on the outside in what once had been a mix of bright pink and various shades of green. The pink had faded to a dull rose, and the green looked like the color of old limes just before they rotted. It needed work and a fresh coat of paint, but instead of doing so, we spent our money on phalluses from Japan. That was how things worked with my mother. No planning. No rhyme or reason. No logic. No rational thought.
The bell above the door tinkled, and I turned, a penis in each hand, as a stranger walked into the shop. I couldn’t see his face at first because the sun was at his back, but he carried a guitar case. A sure sign of trouble.
“Hello,” he said as he came closer.
He had straight dark hair that brushed his shoulders, brown eyes, and a goatee. He reminded me of a sexy, naughty French pirate, and I knew his kind well. Close to my age, he was definitely one of the artsy, flighty types who always hung out around my mom. I could spot them a mile away.

“Holy guacamole, if he were any hotter, I’d need new underwear,” whispered Kate, taking off to the back of the shop and leaving me alone to greet the stranger.

INTERVIEW WITH CHRISTINE CHURCH (Blood Moon: Diary of a Highland Massacre)

Good morning, world.  We've reached the top of the hill for this first week in May. And just to eas you into your day or into your night, we have an interview with author Christine Church. Welcome, Christine!

SC: Tell me a little bit about your main character of this book.
CC: Scotland has been in my blood since I was young, and in 1992, I was finally able to see the country I loved, when I flew over there to “live with” a male friend in the late 1990’s. At that time, I was writing a vampire novel about a woman named Kesi who was an ancient hybrid human/God blood drinker (it’s less complicated than it sounds) who was “collecting” who she considered the ‘perfect’ humans to turn into vampires so she could have a vampire family. Wolfe Stewart (the journal writer in Blood Moon), though not one of Kesi’s “children,” played a role in the whole of the story.

That novel sat for decades until, in 2015, I decided to revamp it (pun intended), tear it apart and make something completely different out of it. That is when I got the idea to have Kesi tell her own story. As she lived way back thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt, I knew these couldn’t be just any journal entries written in some store-bought leather journal with flowers on the cover; they’d have been written on scrolls and be so old as to barely be readable.
That is when I got the idea of “duping” the public by making Kesi’s story seem like “real” documents discovered by an archaeologist, hidden in the sands of Egypt, then restored, translated and published. Something no one else has ever done.

Of course, I never actually duped anyone into thinking these were real. But, I have had a number of reviewers write that they definitely read as being real, and that’s good enough for me.
After Book One, I received a lot of feedback from readers wanting to know more about Kesi’s background and her family, so for Book Two I did a Prequel, taking the reader all the way back to the beginning, long before even the pyramids were built.

Many readers showed a big interest in Wolfe Stewart and Fergus MacGregor (a mute vampire? Whaaa…?), who have a chapter in book one, Sands of Time. Since I was trying to publish these books by chronological date, and since book one actually ends (as a to be continued) in 1789, I went back a bit to 1692 and told Wolfe’s story for book three, Blood Moon: Diary of a Highland Massacre.
So far, that book seems to be everyone’s favorite. But, book four, Love’s Tragedy, is now out and continues where book one left off in 1789 France.

Can you tell I love history?
Most of the books in this series are novellas, because the journal entries (all “discovered” in various locales, translated, published) are straight and to the point writings of the character’s journey and how they were “made” vampires and where they will fall on the timeline of this series.

Going forward, as more vampires are made and introduced, the characters will begin to mesh in interesting ways (such as in attempting to locate and take down Yin) and will come together more and more. So, I guess you can look at the series so far as a sort of “intro” to the characters before the big story (which has been merely introduced), which will involve everyone and take interesting twists and turns as characters come and go and try to live their lives within the confines of their individual circumstances. And of course in the center of all of it is Kesi Akhede… and with her at the helm, no one can ever guess what’s going to happen next (not even me)!
SC: I CAN tell you love history!  Do you believe in the paranormal and if so, do you have an experience you can share?

CC: I LOVE the paranormal in fiction. If “knowing” something is going to happen before it happens is paranormal, then I have it.  All my life, I have been able to “know” certain things… big things… before they happened. One of the biggest, and worst, was when I told a close friend not to let her horse go out the next day. I had a terrible feeling something horrible would happen to him. Most people don’t listen when someone has a ‘feeling,” and the next day her horse went out, broke his leg and had to be put down. The first thing she said to me was “I should have listened to you.” This has happened numerous times in my life, even knowing when certain people would die. I can’t control it nor can I predict when I will get these feelings.
SC: You may be one of the five "Claires", i.e. Clairvoyant, Claircognisant… As I am NOT psychic, what titles are you working on now that you can tell us about?

CC:Book Two in my Anachronistic Dimensions series, which is turning out to be very exciting, scary and unpredictable. I am also working on a time travel romance, an epic fantasy series, book five in the Fate of the True Vampires series, and a nonfiction book on horses.
SC: Many thanks for dropping by today. We can't wait for your return visit. Let's take a look at this story now.

Book Description:

Scottish Highlands, 1692. Befell the tragedy of Mort Ghlinne Comhann, also known as the Murder at Glencoe.

Despite his own incongruous past, all Wolfe Stewart wants is a simple life, free from the persecutions of the Crown. And when he rescues a Child of the Mist from an “Asian man who disappears into the snow as if he were never there,” Wolfe has received his wish. However, mysteries still plague him. He gets no answers, but more questions when a familiar stranger arrives with his cousin and Regiment soldiers to take up the hospitality of the MacDonalds of Glencoe for a fortnight.

Little did the clan suspect what would soon befall them. After the massacre on 13 February, 1692, most MacDonalds lay dead, many exposed to the elements perished, homes burned. Wolfe and his friend Fergus are taken away for reasons unknown.

But why would Campbell and his men commit such a hideous and unholy crime? The truth will not be found in history books. The beast behind this tragic night holds nothing but greed within his heart, and using the Jacobite risings as his cover, he gets what he wants and leaves behind death and suffering.

Excerpt:

A dreary gray mist settled over the Glen, the distant peaks of the Three Sisters Mountains concealed beneath a deep fog that obscured the landscape. However, the weather never kept us young lads from a bonnie game of shot-put in the field. The chill air felt faint against my flesh, though I was donned only in my féileadh-beag, boots and a linen sark.
My shoulder ached from tossing more than my weight in large stones, yet still I was in the game. I lifted quite a bonnie rock, and ignoring the pull in my shoulder, I drew my arm back. Afore I could toss, however, a far-off eerie cry startled me. The boulder landed with a hard thud in the weeds, barely missing my toes.
“Mhac Na Galla!” I cursed, leaping out of its way.
The call sounded once more.
“Wha’ is that?” I asked, rubbing my shoulder and stretching my arm to take off the ache.
“I dinna ken,” said Ian, who stepped up beside me, listening.
“A wolf?” asked Fergus.
Colin weighed in. “An adventure!”

About the Author:

Writing has always been in Ms. Church's blood. At age 9, she wrote small picture books, taped them together (too young for staples??) and even gave them a publishing house name (Church Books; what else?). To this day, those ‘books’ sit in storage somewhere. In school, Church could be found in the back of the classroom, writing short stories (and still managing A's in English and Art).

Church's first book, House Cat (non-fiction) was published when an editor who rejected it left the publishing house and the new editor chose Church’s manuscript proposal from the previous editor’s pile of 200 rejected manuscript proposals, and saw it to publication (plus a Revised Edition 7 years later, which is still on the shelves). From there, Church received offers from Animal Planet (when it was still about animals) and more book assignments. Her book Indoor Cats won the 2001 Iams Responsible Cat Ownership Award.

After working for years honing her fiction skills, Ms. Church made the decision to write a novella, a brainstorm idea introducing a brand new, conceptual and innovative vampire series in a way never before done. As a no-name in fiction, this was a big, bold move. With no cash, no job (on disability), she put the book out all on her own; writing, editing, cover design, formatting, everything. Though far from perfect, this was a big step and a big dream.

Book One received a Finalist Medal in the 2016 Next Generation Indie Book Awards, and Book Two received the 2017 Finalist for the Next Generation Indie Book Award.

Book Description:

We all have a choice in life. Sebastian and I made our choice—to be together.

The Shadow Lands became our sanctuary after everything we'd sacrificed. Our desire for one another only deepened as time passed. We'd broken Coven Laws, defied the human government, and put our families at risk to pursue our passion. The Courting Moon bonded us on that night, sealing our fate.

Nevertheless, our work is far from complete. With the Coven searching everywhere to find us it's only a matter of time before death befalls those we love. We are left with no other choice, but to finish what my father died trying to accomplish. To reestablish the Alliance Sanctuary, rebuild the Kingdom of Dragoius, and bring an end to the Coven of Vampyre's tyrannical rule.

The most powerful Vampyre in all the lands, Sebastian's father, the Count of Orias has vowed to stop at nothing until we are found, and our bond is broken. We're racing against time and it all hinges on discovering the Coven's one secret—

Why romantic love is forbidden…

Excerpt:

He stands there looking upon her radiant beauty, unable to form words. She’s so luxurious to him; he still can’t believe he’s found someone like her to love him unconditionally. She exits the shower, bright pink hair soaking wet. He becomes aroused yet fades into the background. He must fight off the temptation; otherwise, his plans will lie in ruins. He isn’t supposed to be here—not at this moment.
For months he tried and failed to express the passion burning within him in the form of words, but those words never came to fruition. Like a sly snake, he went into their room and placed a note on the bed. Now, only now, is he able to tell her the depths of his unending love for her.
Not just the sexual, but the emotional and spiritual as well—something no Vampyre or human could ever understand in a world built on emotional suppression. He exits the room just as she approaches. Slowly, he closes the door and goes back to fixing the steps that caused them to tumble into the bunker where they now dwell. They’ve been trapped in the bunker for three days, and while everything they need is provided for them, they still would like to have an exit readily available.
The door creaks.
“Sebastian, is that you?” she calls out.
She looks around, but seeing no one, she wraps one towel around her head and one over her body before closing the shower doors. As glaring as the sun beyond the Shadow Lands, the note is there when she nears the bed.
“I can’t believe this man,” she says with a bright smile. She tightens the towel around her body and sits on the bed, taking the note in her hands.
The words “From Me to You” are written across the front. She unfolds the note carefully so as not to tear any part of it. That’s when she notices the Courting Moon’s glow as it shimmers on her skin. A flush of emotion overcomes her heart. They are safe from the Coven, from Daven, from the Council, from anyone looking to do them harm. Now is the time to enjoy each other, to learn more about the emotions they’re experiencing. She finishes unfolding the note and reads the delicate words Sebastian has written for her.
Kyra, my love, my everything,
Space and time have no validity when we are together. The nights I have stayed awake wondering how I could be blessed with such an angel are innumerable. You, Kyra, are my heart . . . if that’s what you wish to call it. Love itself is a word that couldn’t possibly hold bearing on what I feel for you. What we have is so much more than that—I can’t explain it. All I do know is the connection we have will last longer than anything in this world. As bright as the moon shines in the night, I will love you, never fail you, always be there for you, give my life for you, and live for you. Whatever this journey may bring, just know that I, Sebastian of Orias, am within you every moment until my immortality gives way. I love you, Kyra—always.
Holding her hand to her face, she tries to keep tears from ruining the note.
“Kyra,” says Sebastian, holding a collection of pink roses. “Did you read it?”
She removes the towel on her head and places the note on the nightstand near their bed. “Yes, it’s beautiful.”
Sebastian takes a single rose from the bouquet he’s holding and places the bud of it in her hair.
“No, Kyra, you’re beautiful.”
She takes the bouquet from him and breathes its scent in deeply, then sets the roses on the nightstand near the note. She embraced him in a time-stopping kiss. With Sebastian by her side, Kyra is left with a decision. And the fates of both Vampyre and humankind hang in the balance. The choice is hers and hers alone.
