Mid-way through this very weird May, and we’re lucky to
have a virtual guest drop by to answer our three favourite questions. Welcome
author D.L. Blade!
SC: Tell me a little bit about your main character of this
book.
DLB: Mercy is the typical teenager. Close group of friends,
an ex-boyfriend who she struggles to draw a line with between what they had and
what she wants them to have now (friendship), but also, challenges that come
her way that she is too young and naïve to handle in such a short time.
She learns she’s a witch, she died during the Salem witch
trials, she’s been resurrected in the 21st century, she’s a vampire hunter, and
the world relies on her to save them.
Whew, how would anyone handle it? You see her fear, her
distrust, her trusting too much, but also her growth. She is not the same girl
by the end of the book, and you will see how powerful she becomes as the series
progresses.
Mercy may make choices that will frustrate the reader, but
you will also understand why she does everything she does. She sacrifices
everything for the ones she loves, because if she doesn’t, she’d fail, and when
you learn about who these villains are and what they have planned, she must do
everything in her power to defeat them.
SC:How does anyone handle it, indeed! Do you believe in the
paranormal and if so, do you have an experience you can share?
DLB: I do! I’m from southern California and I was part of a
ghost hunting team in San Diego. We had some pretty crazy experiences, from
evps on my own recorders, videos, and I’ve definitely been touched a time or
two in a haunted location by unknown entities.
SC: Great to hear you’re one of us! What titles are you
working on now that you can tell us about?
DLB: I’m halfway through writing my next novel, which is a
pirate fantasy romance. I am also working on a character spin-off from my
paranormal witch trilogy. The pirate book should come out this fall/winter, and
the spin-off, next year.
SC: You’ve been great! Let’s take a look at your book now!

he shares, and instinctively doesn’t trust him.
He also reveals to her a

Mercy finds herself dragged into
a centuries-old battle against the undead, and a sadistic vampire leader has
set his sights on her. And he will stop at nothing until he claims Mercy as his
own.

EXCERPT 2
They were there in the shadows
again. This was the third time this week I had thought someone was watching me.
The last few weeks, I’d heard the
rustling of leaves and the crackling sound of old fallen branches beneath
someone’s feet, or the hairs at the back of my neck would stand straight
because I knew someone stood silently behind me. Last night wasn’t any different.
I exited my car after an exhausting day at work and heard what sounded like a
low, deep exhale coming from the forest next to Lily’s house. I swiftly turned
around, fumbling with the flashlight on my phone, but when the light pierced the
darkness, the sound stopped.
Tonight, it was a silhouette
behind my aunt Lily’s fence in the backyard. It wasn’t someone walking by with
their dog or a neighbor taking out their trash. They were standing there,
staring, as I walked to the sink to rinse my dinner bowl. I wasn’t going to
tell her again. She’d just tell me what she’d told me last time I brought it
up. She’d say I was just seeing things and that it was normal to feel this way
after trauma.
“Your turn, Mercy,” Lily said.
Her voice pulled my gaze from the window.
“I’m coming,” I said, taking one
last glance toward the silhouette.
They were gone.

D.L. Blade grew up in southern
California, but relocated to Colorado with her family in 2014.

concentrating on poetry rather than prose when she was younger. That changed
however, when she had a dream one night and decided to create a story about it.
In her spare time, D.L. enjoys a
wide variety of hobbies, including reading, attending rock concerts and
volunteering at local animal shelters where she can indulge in her passion for
all forms of life.
In the future, D.L. hopes that
she can continue to write exciting novels that will captivate her readers and
bring them into the worlds that she creates using her imagination.
